Small but meaningful: why 1% of every sale goes to carbon removal
4 October 2026 · 4 min read · The Chandler Soap & Wax Co.
From today, 1% of every purchase from The Chandler goes to removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through Stripe Climate. On a $30 candle that’s 30 cents. On a $45 duo, 45 cents.
It’s not a lot of money on its own, and we won’t pretend otherwise. Here’s why we think it’s still worth doing, and exactly where the money goes.
Why carbon removal?
The most important climate action is cutting emissions. But the UN’s climate science body, the IPCC, says that reaching net zero will also require removing carbon dioxide that has already been released. Some emissions, from industry, long-distance transport and agriculture, are very hard to eliminate, and removal helps balance them out (IPCC).
The technologies that can remove carbon permanently are still young and expensive. They need early customers to help them grow and bring costs down.
Where the money goes
Stripe Climate pools small contributions from businesses that use Stripe for payments. That money goes to Frontier, an advance market commitment to buy more than US$1 billion of permanent carbon removal by 2030. Frontier buys removal from early-stage companies working on approaches such as direct air capture, mineralisation and storing carbon from biomass (Stripe Climate).
We don’t choose individual projects, and our contribution doesn’t make your purchase “carbon neutral”. What it does is add a small, real amount to a fund that helps new carbon removal technology get off the ground.

Small, but meaningful
We’re a small family business. We can’t fund a carbon-removal plant. But thousands of businesses each giving a little adds up to something no single small business could do alone, and it’s built into every order, not saved for a good year.
It also keeps us honest about the bigger picture. Making things has an impact, and we’d rather do something than nothing while we keep learning how to do better.
A few small things you can do too
- When your candle is finished, scrape out any leftover wax, wash the jar in warm soapy water and reuse it for cotton buds, pens or a small plant.
- Refill or reuse your pump bottle rather than throwing it away.
- Recycle glass and paper packaging through your council’s kerbside recycling.
Thank you for shopping small. Every order now does a little extra good, whichever scent you choose.
